I print large cosplay armor pieces and this bed size is a game changer. Auto leveling worked perfectly out of the box and I was printing within an hour of unboxing.

Bench unitThe Anycubic Kobra 2 Max is a strong choice for makers who need serious build volume without stepping into industrial pricing. Its auto-leveling, direct drive extruder, and high-speed capability make it approachable for beginners while still satisfying hobbyists who print large props, cosplay pieces, or batch jobs. Minor quirks in cooling and firmware keep it from perfection, but overall it delivers excellent value for large-format FDM printing.
Measured on our bench
The Anycubic Kobra 2 Max is a large-format FDM 3D printer built for makers who need serious build volume without sacrificing the print speeds that made the Kobra 2 series popular. With a generous 420 x 420 x 500mm print area, it caters to hobbyists and small businesses producing oversized props, cosplay armor, home organization pieces, or batches of smaller parts arranged together on a single plate. The machine retains the core mechanical philosophy of its siblings, using a sturdy dual-Z-axis gantry, linear rails, and a direct-drive extruder tuned for high-speed motion, allowing it to reach print speeds up to 300mm/s while maintaining reasonable dimensional accuracy on PLA, PETG, and similar filaments.
At the heart of the Kobra 2 Max sits Anycubic's LeviQ auto-leveling system paired with a flexible PEI-coated spring steel build plate that heats quickly and releases finished prints with a simple flex once cooled. The auto-leveling routine compensates for the inherent challenges of a bed this large, actively probing multiple points across the surface to correct for warping or minor mechanical imperfections before every print. A dual-gear direct extruder improves grip on filament and reduces the risk of skips or clogs during rapid retraction, which matters more on a machine pushing higher speeds and covering more surface area per layer. The enclosed-frame-adjacent design, open gantry, and reinforced base help keep vibration in check despite the increased mass of the toolhead and bed assembly.
Connectivity and everyday usability round out the package, with a color touchscreen interface, resume-after-power-loss functionality, filament run-out detection, and support for both USB stick and network-based slicing workflows through Anycubic's companion slicer software or third-party alternatives like Cura. The printer ships mostly pre-assembled, reducing setup time for users who want to start printing large-scale objects without extensive calibration sessions. For 3D printing enthusiasts scaling up from smaller desktop machines, the Kobra 2 Max offers a practical middle ground between consumer affordability and the spatial demands of bigger projects, making it a compelling option for anyone whose ambitions have simply outgrown a standard 220 x 220mm print bed.

Speed and size are fantastic for the price. Had to upgrade the fan shroud for better overhangs on tall prints but otherwise very happy with quality.
The direct drive extruder is a huge improvement for TPU prints. Frame feels much more rigid than the original Max. Just wish it came with an enclosure option.
Running multiple small parts across the huge bed has boosted my Etsy shop output significantly. Reliable leveling every single print.
Print quality is great when it works, but I've had a couple firmware freezes mid-print. Support was helpful though and a firmware update fixed most issues.
